Pottery model of a granary
Description
Description
The granary is built on a rectangular plan. Each has a gabled roof and both ends of the ridge are decorated with finials which may be the proto-type of the "owl's tail" acroteria characteristic of traditional Chinese roofs. The construction of the building is clearly indicated by incised lines representing the wooden beams and posts. There is a rectangular door and no window. On the bottom of the granary are four circular holes, one at each corner, which are intended for insertion of wooden or bamboo sticks, representing the wooden piles on which such buildings stood. There are also four circular holes at the corners of the door.
